Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just half a year after leading insulting chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a agreement with the Championship strugglers until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds finished by mutual consent in August.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead offensive chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All seems has been put behind them with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Challenges

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury in recent years.
